Can a Mother's probiotic shape her Baby's gut?

NCT ID NCT07404930

Summary

This study looked at whether giving a specific probiotic supplement to breastfeeding mothers could change the bacteria in their breast milk and then colonize their babies' intestines. Researchers enrolled 70 first-time mothers with healthy, exclusively breastfed babies. Half the mothers took the daily probiotic drops for 30 days, while the other half did not, to compare changes in milk and baby stool samples.
