Scientists peek inside the gut to see how a probiotic works

NCT ID NCT07366749

Summary

This is a small, early study to see how a new probiotic supplement affects the lining of the small intestine in healthy volunteers. Eight participants will take the probiotic (with and without a fiber) and a placebo on separate visits. Researchers will collect small tissue samples from the gut to see if the probiotic changes how genes work or the sugars on the gut's surface, which could help design future studies for people with high uric acid.
