Summary
This study tested whether a probiotic called Lactobacillus reuteri can prevent or treat severe mouth sores in 160 patients with head and neck cancer undergoing radiation therapy. Mouth sores are a painful side effect that can make eating difficult. The goal was to see if the probiotic reduces the number of patients who develop severe sores and shortens how long they last.
