Gut bacteria pills aim to keep mania patients out of hospital
NCT ID NCT03383874
Summary
This study tested whether taking probiotic supplements could help prevent people from being re-hospitalized for mania after being discharged. 67 people recently hospitalized for mania were randomly assigned to take either probiotic capsules or placebo pills for 24 weeks. Researchers tracked whether participants needed to return to the hospital and measured symptoms, mood episodes, and inflammation markers to see if probiotics made a difference.
