Gut bacteria supplement may tame type 1 diabetes inflammation
NCT ID NCT07585994
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking a probiotic called Desulfovibrio piger for 4 weeks can lower inflammation and help preserve the body's own insulin production in people who have had type 1 diabetes for more than 5 years. Twenty adults with remaining beta cell function will receive either the probiotic or a placebo. The goal is to see if this supplement can improve immune and metabolic health, not to cure the disease.
