Simple breathing device may cut lung surgery complications
NCT ID NCT07365072
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding a hand-held breathing muscle trainer to standard pre-surgery exercise rehab can reduce complications and hospital stays for people with lung cancer. About 100 adults scheduled for lung cancer surgery will be split into two groups: one gets standard rehab plus the breathing trainer, the other gets standard rehab alone. Researchers will track complications and recovery for up to 12 months after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Inspiratory muscle training device (POWERBreathe)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could reduce serious complications and shorten hospital stays after lung cancer surgery, making recovery easier.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device may not provide significant benefit over standard care.
