Train your brain before heart surgery to dodge delirium

NCT ID NCT04493996

First seen Feb 20, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether doing simple brain exercises at home for a few weeks before heart surgery can help prevent confusion (delirium) and memory problems that often occur after the operation. The researchers will enroll 100 adults scheduled for elective heart surgery. Half will do the cognitive training; the other half will receive standard care. The goal is to see if building up 'cognitive reserve' beforehand protects the brain during and after surgery.
