Nerve block may stop shingles pain from becoming chronic
NCT ID NCT07349680
First seen Jan 22, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tested whether a targeted nerve block, using a numbing medicine and a steroid, could prevent the long-term nerve pain that sometimes follows a shingles outbreak. One hundred adults with shingles on their chest or back received either standard care or standard care plus the nerve block. The main goal was to see if the block reduced the chance of pain lasting 90 days or more.
