ER visit could be your Wake-Up call: new study tests health coaching on the spot

NCT ID NCT05680519

First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tested whether a brief, supportive conversation in the emergency department can help people change unhealthy habits like smoking, poor diet, or lack of exercise. Researchers enrolled 150 adults who were in the ER for non-urgent reasons and had at least one health-risk behavior. The main goal was to see if this approach is practical and acceptable, not yet to prove it prevents disease.
