New surgery aims to stop debilitating swelling before it starts

NCT ID NCT06887205

Summary

This study tests whether performing a special microsurgery called lymphovenous bypass during lymph node removal can prevent lymphedema—a painful, chronic swelling of the arm or leg. Researchers will compare outcomes in 20 melanoma patients who receive the bypass at the time of their main surgery to see if it reduces swelling risk. The goal is to prevent this debilitating complication rather than treat it after it develops.
