New surgery may stop debilitating swelling for breast cancer patients

Summary
This study is testing whether adding a special reconstruction technique during lymph node removal surgery can prevent lymphedema—a painful, chronic swelling of the arm that often occurs after breast cancer treatment. The trial involves 180 female breast cancer patients who are having lymph node surgery. Researchers will compare patients who receive the new reconstruction technique during surgery to those who have standard surgery alone.
