New drug aims to shield kidneys during risky heart operations

Summary

This study is testing whether an investigational drug called GDC-8264 can prevent serious kidney injury in people undergoing major heart surgery. It will involve about 404 adults who are at moderate to high risk for kidney problems after their operation. Participants will receive either the study drug or a placebo (inactive substance) before and after surgery to see if it reduces kidney damage and related complications.
