NCT ID NCT05253339

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested a new method for giving the antibiotic cefoxitin during colorectal surgery to prevent infections. Instead of the standard one-size-fits-all dose, a computer-controlled pump delivered a personalized amount based on each patient's weight and kidney function. The trial involved over 2,400 adults having colon or rectal surgery. The goal was to see if this tailored approach could lower the rate of surgical site infections.
