First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study will test whether adding a second antibiotic (vancomycin) to the standard one (cefazolin) or giving antibiotics for a longer time can prevent serious infections after open-heart surgery. About 38,000 adults having heart surgery will be randomly assigned to one of four antibiotic plans. The goal is to find the safest and most effective way to stop surgical-site infections.
