New treatment aims to stop dangerous transplant complication

NCT ID NCT03805789

Summary

This study is testing whether a protein called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin can prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients receiving stem cell transplants for blood cancers. GVHD is a serious complication where the donor's immune cells attack the patient's body. The trial involves 222 participants who will receive either the protein therapy or a placebo, alongside standard transplant care, to see if it reduces the risk of developing this condition.
