Light therapy tested to shield patients from dangerous transplant complication

NCT ID NCT03204721

Summary

This study tested if a special light-based blood treatment could prevent a serious complication called graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients receiving a stem cell transplant for blood cancer. Researchers compared this treatment, which has milder side effects, to standard preventive drugs. The goal was to see if it could reduce how often GVHD occurs in the first year after transplant.
