ER visit could be your Wake-Up call: new study tests lifestyle coaching to prevent chronic disease

NCT ID NCT06889792

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving emergency department visitors a health screening and personalized advice can help them adopt healthier lifestyles and prevent non-communicable diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Over 1,100 adults in Hong Kong who have at least one unhealthy habit (like smoking or poor diet) will be randomly assigned to receive either extra support via text messages and videos or just brief advice. The goal is to see if the extra support leads to lasting healthy changes at 6 and 12 months.
