Doctors test simple IV shot to stop annoying cough during lung exams

NCT ID NCT05072236

Summary

This study tested if giving patients a quick IV injection of one of two drugs (lidocaine or alfentanil) right before a lung procedure could prevent severe coughing. Coughing during these procedures can make it harder for doctors to work and can be risky for patients. The researchers compared these drugs to a placebo (saltwater) in 108 patients having procedures for lung tumors to see which worked best.
