Two shots at stopping surgery pain: nerve block vs. ketamine

NCT ID NCT07230392

Summary

This study tested two different methods to prevent patients from developing long-term pain after thyroid surgery. Researchers compared a local nerve block (an injection that numbs the neck area) against a dose of the drug ketamine given before surgery. The goal was to see which approach was better at reducing the chance of chronic pain three months after the operation.
