Mindful movement may ward off anorexia in At-Risk college women
NCT ID NCT07677020
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an 8-week program combining gentle yoga and tai chi with acceptance-based techniques can lower the risk of developing anorexia nervosa in female college students who already have elevated body shape concerns. Participants are randomly assigned to the mindful movement program, a standard fitness class, or an educational session. Researchers track changes in eating disorder risk, body image, and mood over several months to see if the mindful approach offers extra protection.

What this could lead to
If effective, this program could offer a low-cost, non-drug way to prevent eating disorders in at-risk young women.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with 135 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The program may not outperform simpler fitness or education approaches.
