Protein and exercise before surgery may help seniors bounce back faster

Summary

This study tests whether a high-protein nutrition plan combined with resistance exercises, started weeks before surgery and continued for 24 weeks after, can help older Veterans with cancer maintain their physical function. About 188 participants aged 55 and older with early-stage gastrointestinal or genitourinary cancers will be enrolled. The goal is to speed recovery, improve quality of life, and reduce strain on the healthcare system.
