Ultrasound trick may help surgeons give just the right amount of fluids

NCT ID NCT06188039

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at 150 adults having open abdominal or aortic surgery to see if a simple ultrasound measurement of a large vein near the heart can predict whether a patient needs more fluids. Doctors gave a small fluid bolus and checked if the heart pumped more blood. The goal is to help surgeons give fluids more precisely, which could lower risks during and after surgery.
