First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looked at 575 older adults (65+) who had knee or hip replacement surgery to see if having chronic pain before the operation increased their risk of depression within the first week after surgery. Researchers analyzed data from a Chinese database and found that preoperative chronic pain was associated with higher rates of postoperative depressive states. The goal is to help doctors better manage pain and mental health before and after surgery to improve recovery.
