One talk before birth may boost breastfeeding success
NCT ID NCT07430020
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a single 90-minute shared decision-making counseling session during pregnancy helps first-time mothers feel less conflicted about breastfeeding and improves how well they breastfeed. 112 pregnant women in Iran took part, with half receiving the counseling and half getting usual care. Researchers measured decision-making conflict and breastfeeding performance up to 60 days after birth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Shared decision-making counseling session
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to support new mothers in their breastfeeding choices.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study in one city in Iran, so results may not apply to other settings. The intervention is just one counseling session, so lasting impact is uncertain.
