Summary

This study tested whether pregnenolone, a natural hormone in the brain, can help reduce irritability and improve social communication in people with autism. Forty teens and young adults (ages 14–25) with autism took part. The goal was to see if the treatment is safe and effective for easing certain autism-related behaviors.
