Summary
This study tested a small, portable ultrasound probe (echopen) for pregnancy checkups in Senegal, where access to standard ultrasound is limited. 224 pregnant women at 37 weeks or more were scanned with both the portable probe and a regular ultrasound machine. The goal was to see if the portable device could reliably check fetal position, number of fetuses, heartbeat, and placental location. If proven accurate, this low-cost tool could help caregivers detect complications early and improve pregnancy monitoring in resource-limited settings.
