New DNA test could predict blood infections in kids with cancer

NCT ID NCT03226158

First seen Feb 10, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a new DNA test (next generation sequencing) can predict bloodstream infections in children and teens with cancer who are at high risk. Current methods often detect infections too late, leading to serious illness or death. The goal is to see if this test can catch infections early, so doctors can treat them sooner and reduce the need for strong antibiotics that can lead to drug resistance. About 160 participants from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are taking part.
