New DNA test could predict blood infections in kids with cancer

NCT ID NCT03226158

First seen Feb 10, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a new DNA-based test can predict bloodstream infections in children and teens with cancer who are at high risk. Current methods often detect infections too late, leading to serious illness or death. The researchers will compare the DNA test results with standard blood cultures to see if the test can spot infections earlier, which could allow doctors to treat them sooner and reduce the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
