Simple ultrasound scan may spot twin pregnancy dangers early
NCT ID NCT06935422
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a special ultrasound measurement called the cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) can predict serious complications in monochorionic (identical) twin pregnancies. Researchers will measure CPR differences between twins at 16-20 weeks and track outcomes like twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome and growth problems. The goal is to find a way to identify high-risk pregnancies early for better care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could give doctors a simple way to identify high-risk twin pregnancies early, allowing closer monitoring and timely interventions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 55 participants. The ultrasound measurement may not reliably predict complications, and results may not apply to all pregnancies.
