AI predicts which autistic teens respond to brain zaps

NCT ID NCT05035511

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called tDCS can improve social communication and reduce repetitive behaviors in adolescents with autism. Researchers will use machine learning to analyze brain activity (EEG) and clinical data to predict who will respond best. The goal is to personalize treatment for the 90 participants, all aged 12-17 with an IQ above 60.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) device

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors predict which adolescents with autism will respond to tDCS, making treatment more personalized and effective.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with only 90 participants, and it focuses on predicting response rather than proving tDCS works. Results may not apply to all individuals with autism.
