First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looked at 110 knee replacement patients to see if heart rate variability (HRV) could predict a sudden, intense pain called rebound pain after nerve blocks wear off. Researchers measured HRV before and after surgery using a chest monitor. The goal is to help doctors personalize pain treatment and prevent severe pain episodes.
