Searching for clues: which tests best spot the true cause of low platelets in seniors?
NCT ID NCT01648556
Summary
This study aimed to understand which medical tests can best predict whether an elderly person's unexplained low platelet count is due to immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or another condition like myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Researchers followed 37 patients over 60 years old with low platelet counts for two years, tracking results from bone marrow and blood tests. The goal was to improve diagnosis so patients receive the correct treatment faster.
