Doctors seek clues to spare tiny babies unnecessary heart treatments

NCT ID NCT03782610

Summary

This study aims to help doctors predict which premature babies with a common open heart vessel (PDA) will heal on their own and which need treatment. Researchers will follow over 500 preterm infants, using heart ultrasounds and blood tests in their first month to find early signs linked to future lung and brain development problems. The goal is to create guidelines so only babies at high risk get treatments, avoiding unnecessary procedures for those who would heal naturally.
