New scoring system could help doctors avoid intubation trouble
NCT ID NCT07355608
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study will observe nearly 5000 adult surgical patients to develop a better way to predict when placing a breathing tube with a video laryngoscope might be difficult. Researchers will create a new scoring system for the view of the voice box and compare it to existing methods. The goal is to help doctors anticipate problems and improve patient safety during anesthesia.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more accurate tool to help doctors predict and prepare for difficult intubations, potentially reducing complications.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The scoring system may not prove reliable in all settings or improve patient outcomes.
