New drug combo aims to wipe out tough prostate tumors before surgery
NCT ID NCT05593497
First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding an experimental drug (capivasertib) to standard hormone therapy before prostate surgery can better shrink or destroy high-risk prostate cancers that have a specific genetic change (PTEN loss). About 30 men with localized but aggressive prostate cancer will receive the drug combination for a few months, then undergo surgery to remove the prostate. The goal is to see if this approach leads to no cancer or only tiny amounts of cancer left at the time of surgery, and to check for side effects.
