GPS-Guided prostate radiation: could 3 doses be better than 5?
NCT ID NCT06117059
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether giving only 3 doses of high-precision radiation (SBRT) over 3 days is as safe and effective as the usual 5-dose schedule for men with low or intermediate risk prostate cancer. The radiation is guided by a special catheter that acts like a GPS, tracking the prostate's position in real time to protect nearby organs. The goal is to reduce side effects and make treatment more convenient.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy (SBRT/SABR)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a shorter, more convenient radiation schedule for early prostate cancer with fewer side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 100 participants. It is not yet proven that 3 doses are as safe or effective as the standard 5-dose regimen.
