Shrinking tumors before surgery: a gentler approach to breast cancer?
NCT ID NCT02186470
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving a high dose of focused radiation to the tumor before surgery is a safe and effective approach for older patients with early-stage, hormone-sensitive breast cancer. The goal was to shrink the tumor and reduce the amount of healthy tissue removed during surgery. Twenty-two participants received this radiation treatment followed by surgery, and researchers measured how well the radiation targets could be defined by MRI and how well the treatment plan worked.
