New stain may help doctors spot hidden cancer cells during skin surgery

NCT ID NCT07258446

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a special stain (PRAME) to standard microscope checks during Mohs surgery helps doctors see leftover melanoma cells more clearly. About 36 adults with early-stage melanoma (stage 0 to IIc) will take part. The goal is to see if the stain improves accuracy in deciding when all cancer has been removed, potentially reducing the need for repeat surgeries.
