First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether applying povidone iodine (a germ-killing solution) inside the nose can reduce the risk of surgical site infections, especially those caused by staph bacteria, in patients having surgery for severe leg, ankle, or foot fractures. About 2000 adults are taking part. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost approach can prevent deep infections after these high-risk procedures.
