Scientists probe teen brain for clues to mysterious fainting disorder

NCT ID NCT06616363

Summary

This study aims to understand if a problem in a specific brain area (the periaqueductal gray) is the root cause of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and its common co-occurring pain conditions in adolescents. Researchers will recruit 120 participants, including teens with POTS, teens recovering from a recent infection, and healthy teens. They will use brain scans (fMRI), tilt-table tests, and questionnaires to see how the brain's threat-response system relates to POTS symptoms and disability.
