Ultrasound vs. no ultrasound for Post-Birth IUDs: which works better?

NCT ID NCT04474548

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 07, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looked at whether using ultrasound guidance when placing a hormonal IUD right after a vaginal delivery helps lower the chance the IUD will fall out. About 100 women who wanted an IUD for birth control after giving birth took part. Half had the IUD placed with ultrasound, half without. The study was stopped early, so results are limited.
