Summary

This study tested simple improvements to local health systems to help first-time mothers (ages 14-25) in Tanzania use family planning within a year after giving birth. Over 1,100 women took part in a cluster randomized trial. The goal was to see if strengthening existing government and community health efforts could increase the use of modern contraception.
