Why does postpartum back pain linger? scientists map body, mood, and immune clues
NCT ID NCT07809685
First seen Sep 09, 2026 · Last updated Sep 10, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Many women have low back or pelvic girdle pain months after giving birth, and the pain can limit daily activities. This observational study enrolls about 45 women who are 6 to 15 months postpartum and have persistent pain. Researchers measure disability, pain intensity, depression symptoms, quality of life, trunk muscle endurance, abdominal muscle separation, and blood markers of inflammation and stress. The goal is to find which clinical, biomechanical, psychological, and biochemical factors relate to functional disability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If researchers identify which biomechanical, psychological, and biochemical factors track with disability, that could guide better targeted care for women with persistent postpartum back or pelvic pain.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small observational study of 45 women, so it can show links between factors but cannot prove what causes disability or what treatment works. Findings may not apply to all postpartum women.
