New gel may ease throat tightness after thyroid surgery

Summary

This study tested whether applying a gel made of oxidized regenerated cellulose and hyaluronic acid during thyroid surgery can reduce painful scar tissue (adhesions) and improve swallowing. 45 adults having thyroid surgery for goiter or cancer took part. The gel aims to ease neck discomfort and voice changes that often occur after surgery.
