NCT ID NCT06655454

First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving patients an extra injection of a long-acting anesthetic (bupivacaine with epinephrine) right after a root canal can lower pain, improve quality of life, and reduce the need for painkillers. About 150 adults with tooth pain will be randomly assigned to receive the extra anesthetic, a placebo injection, or no extra injection. Researchers will track pain levels and quality of life for four days after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bupivacaine with epinephrine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple way to reduce pain and the need for painkillers after a root canal.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial, so results may not apply to everyone. The extra injection may not provide meaningful benefit over a placebo or no injection.
