ICU survivors: new study aims to predict hidden struggles after leaving hospital

NCT ID NCT05690438

First seen Dec 26, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This observational study looked at 773 adults who stayed in the intensive care unit (ICU) for at least 12 hours. Researchers wanted to see if a screening test given when patients leave the ICU could predict if they would have psychological issues (like depression, anxiety, or PTSD) or new physical disabilities three months later. They also studied how pain, resilience, and frailty affect recovery. The goal is to better identify patients who may need extra support after a critical illness.
