First seen Nov 14, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether eating a diet low in polyamines (natural compounds found in many foods) for a week before and after major abdominal surgery can lower pain levels. About 278 adults having a second abdominal surgery will be randomly assigned to either the special diet or their usual diet. The main goal is to see if the diet reduces pain scores and the need for painkillers in the first three days after surgery.
