Lung bacteria may predict pneumonia treatment success

NCT ID NCT06916481

First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study looks at how the natural bacteria in your lungs (the microbiome) might influence how well antibiotics work for pneumonia. Researchers will follow 300 adults with pneumonia, taking samples from the mouth, rectum, and lungs over 90 days. The goal is to see if certain bacteria patterns can predict treatment failure or the rise of antibiotic resistance, which could help doctors choose better treatments in the future.
