Pharmacist teamwork boosts pneumonia vaccine rates in hospitals
NCT ID NCT05060146
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a structured collaboration between pharmacists and doctors could improve pneumococcal vaccination rates in patients at high risk for infection. Over 600 hospitalized adults with chronic conditions or weakened immune systems took part. The pharmacist reviewed medications, educated patients, and coordinated vaccination after discharge.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pneumococcal vaccine
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could significantly increase vaccination rates in at-risk patients, reducing serious infections like pneumonia and meningitis.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study, so results are available. However, the intervention relies on multiple steps (pharmacist, doctor, nurse) which may not work in all hospitals or countries.
