New hope for dialysis patients with dangerous hormone imbalance

Summary

This study tested a drug called PLS240 for people with kidney failure on dialysis who also have a serious hormone problem called secondary hyperparathyroidism. For the first 27 weeks, 412 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the real drug or a placebo (inactive substance) without knowing which one they got. After that, eligible participants could receive the real drug for another 26 weeks. The main goal was to see if PLS240 could safely and effectively lower the high hormone levels common in this condition.
